GIS Potential in Planning: Current Projects in the U.S.

Power Point Presentation

City planners for years have been working on problems with the built environment so that our communities are safe and pleasant for living.
A hundred years ago city planners had a pretty easy job doing that because there were few problems for them to address. The urban environment where they lived was quite compact so planners worked on the urban landscape: designing buildings and parks and neighborhoods.
But later, Americans began to fall in love with THE AUTOMOBILE, and that changed the planners’ job. The automobile, as it turns out, was a major cause of the problems we face in today’s communities.

Today’s planners in the U.S. have many problems to address and geographic information systems (GIS) are helping them.
