Introduction to American Indian Literature: Short
Fiction
M. Wilson
This course will survey short fiction by American Indian writers past and
present. We will try to read about eight stories a week, with each week
having its own thematic focus. I hope we are not constricted by the
theme-of-the-week, because each story (obviously) contains many more
thematic elements than the one in the syllabus. But focus is important,
and at the end of each week you will be assigned a question for the week
about the stories and the class discussions. We will also do quite a lot
of group work as well.
