Prerequisites for the Plan D MA Program
Before entering the program, the student is required to have completed at least six units in introductory linguistics courses; these course differ slightly for the different specializations, as listed below. Students who have not taken the required pre-requisites before admission to the program will be admitted with a deficiency, which must be remedied by taking the appropriate prerequisite course(s) after admission. These courses cannot be counted toward the 24 units required for the M.A. degree.
Linguistics Specialization
- English 400 (Introduction to English Linguistics) or Linguistics 350 (Introduction to Linguistics) or the equivalent
AND
- Linguistics 370 (General Phonetics and Phonetic Practicum) or the equivalent
All Other Specializations, Specialization Undecided
- English 400 (Introduction to English Linguistics) or Linguistics 350 (Introduction to Linguistics) or the equivalent
AND
- English 403 (Survey of Modern English Grammar) or the equivalent
