Apply to the TESOL Certificate Programs
Step 1 (All Applicants): Submit the Following Materials:
- TESOL Certificate Program Application form (pdf 48k)
- Official transcripts of all your university-level academic work
- Two letters of recommendation from people who are knowledgeable about your recent academic and/or work experience. [The letters should address how long and in what capacity the recommending individual has known you, and what qualities you possess which would make you a successful candidate in the program.]
- A statement of purpose [This provides an opportunity for you to discuss in a typed page or two why you wish to enter the program.]
- Applicants who are not native speakers of English should also submit official scores on the TOEFL or IELTS, and the TSE

Application Deadlines:
- To begin in the summer session: March 1
- To begin in the fall semester: May 1
- To begin in the spring semester: November 1
Step 2 (Students who are not currently enrolled in a degree program at UWM):
To enroll as a student at UWM, you must also:
- apply for status as a Special Student (if you are applying to the [Non-Graduate] TESOL Certificate Program)
OR
- apply for status as a Graduate Non-Degree Student (PDF) (if you are applying to the Graduate TESOL Certificate Program)
