The writing internship for English Majors provides you with the opportunity
to:
Apply your coursework and writing skills while working in a real
world setting.
Develop professional skills and experience that are valuable
in the professional marketplace.
Synthesize course and work experience through progress reports,
class discussion, conferences with the instructor, and a final paper.
Internship placements have been arranged with a variety of Milwaukee-area
organizations and businesses in the following fields:
publishing, public relations and advertising, corporate communications
departments of companies, not-for-profit agencies, and technical writing
firms. As a writing intern, you may be called upon to do a variety
of tasks, including writing, editing, proofreading, and researching.
To enroll in this course, fill out an application form, available in
the Department of English office, Curtin Hall, room 439. The application
asks you for a summary of your school and work experience, references,
and a sample of your writing. A faculty committee will screen applicants
for their competency in English grammar, punctuation, and usage, as well
as for their ability to conduct themselves appropriately in the workplace.
The application also directs you to the Reserve Room, where there is a
notebook listing the current placements plus reports and work samples from
previous interns (under Washburne).
