"The marijuana of the nursery, the bane of the bassinet, the horror of the house, the curse of the kids, and a threat to the future": Spoken in 1948 during a radio show condemning comics, those words uphold and carry forward a long tradition of regarding texts that mix words and pictures as literature lite, easy (and distracting) reads for the under-educated.
To comprehend and question such claims we will in this class:
Through such work, we will build understandings of current cultural places of graphic novels, the work they do, and the openings they currently provide for further action and distraction.
