Course Description

Students in this course will learn the essentials of: targeting copy for specific audiences, preparing manuscripts for publication (including content editing, copy editing, and proofreading), the production process, the business aspects of publishing, and the fundamentals of layout and design. Although the course will emphasize nonfiction, general audience magazines and books, other types of publications will also be covered, including academic, professional, and trade publications. The assignments are:

Graduate Students: Additional assignment of their choice.

Grading:
Working with copy assignments 25%
Book proposal, production process report 25%
Group publication 25%
All other assignments, class participation, effort, improvement   25%
