Course Description

This course is designed to introduce education majors to composing process theories and pedagogies as part of their preparation for teaching writing. Clearly, no single course, particularly one that does not include actual practice, can adequately prepare future teachers for the complexity and challenges of teaching writing. However, this course aims to begin that process (1) by introducing theories and debates related to the teaching of writing that can, in turn, serve as critical lenses for teaching and reflecting on practice; (2) by suggesting a repertoire of pedagogies that can be adapted and transformed to suit various classroom situations; and (3) by offering opportunities to develop and reflect on your own writing practices and identity as a writer.
