Business Writing

Course Description

This course provides an introduction to business writing, which includes reports, memos, letters, and electronic communication. This course is particularly appropriate for students in business and related areas, although it is open to students from any major. The course requires critical thinking, problem solving, attention to detail, ingenuity, and a significant time commitment to complete the writing assignments.

In this course, students can expect to plan, compose, and edit their own writing; evaluate written communication, their own and the writing of others; and connect oral presentation skills with writing skills.

Students will:

  1. Develop workplace writing based on knowing the purpose and understanding the audience
  2. Become acquainted with writing situations and tasks that professionals are likely to encounter in a business/working environment
  3. Learn how to select the most appropriate style, tone, and format for various work-related writing and other communication projects
