Course Description
The class will read a selection of Shakespeare's plays and some of his poetry to consider why people have enjoyed his writing so much over such a long time. We will consider a certain amount of historical background to help us understand the context of his plots, but primarily we will examine how skillfully he tells his dramatic story, and how he creates and sustains the audience's interest in his characters. Because of the limited time at our disposal, the students will write a single final paper.
