Course Description
This course surveys the multimedia work of David Lynch. We will view all of his feature length films, as well as the majority of his work for television and the internet. In particular, we will pay close attention to how he composes images and constructs narratives across those different mediums. In addition, the course will examine the major themes and motifs of his work, such as gender, identity, trauma, and his more recent reflections on the nature of film itself.
Screenings: Early short films, Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart, Fire Walk With Me, Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive, several episodes of Twin Peaks, On the Air, Dumbland, and Rabbits.
