Please note prerequisite of C or better in English 102 or score at level 4 on EPT. English 230 fulfills a requirement for English majors in Rhetoric and Writing Track B.

Course Description

English 230 is an undergraduate course devoted to reading and writing a versatile, evolving genre known as creative nonfiction. Students will discover the styles or individual ways that writers of creative nonfiction express themselves. Students will discover

  • how factual content and creative style work together
  • the variety of forms available such as memoir, personal essay, portrait, essay of place, and literary journalism
  • the variety of structures available such as chronological, segmented, framed, and epistolary
  • the range of voice and language in creative nonfiction

Students will have the opportunity to do extensive writing so that they may develop and practice a creative nonfiction style.

Attendance
Attendance is crucial to success in this course. Over three absences will affect the semester grade.
