Course Description

This survey course in Irish literature introduces students to 1500 years of Irish literature, from the earliest vernacular texts in Western Europe to the internationally recognized names from modern literature. We will look at Irish myth, poetry, the novel, short story, and drama. We will cover selective, representative texts in class, and students will work on a major text or writer that is not included on the syllabus for their term project.

Grading is based upon homework assignments, a midterm, a major paper, and an optional final exam.
