Course Description
In this course we will examine the representation of women in Hollywood and other cinemas, and the filmic structures that shape the way viewers look at women on screen. We'll start off looking at classical Hollywood films, paying special attention to the way form shapes content. In the second half of the course, we will turn to films made outside Hollywood. Films include: Mildred Pierce, Stella Dallas, Vertigo, Silence of the Lambs, Orlando, The Piano, Clueless, and Just Another Girl on the IRT.
