Course Description
This course will focus on issues of female film authorship in conjunction with films directed by women since the 1980s. We will study groups of films by several directors in order for students to gain an understanding of authorship issues across a director's body of work. A tentative list of directors and films on which we will concentrate include: Mira Nair (Vanity Fair, Monsoon Wedding, Salaam Bombay!), Amy Heckerling (Clueless, Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Julie Taymor (Frida, Titus), Allison Anders (Sugar Town, Mi Vida Loca, Gas Food Lodging), and Agnieska Holland (Europa Europa, Olivier, Angry Harvest).
