Course Description
This course is an introduction to the writing of Judith Butler and Eve Sedgwick, two major figures at the intersection of feminist and queer theory. As we read works that span the author's careers - Butler's early /Gender Trouble/ to her recent /Precarious Life, /and Sedgwick's /Between Men/ to her recent work /Touching Feeling/ - we will have the opportunity to consider the major theoretical issues at stake in these works and trace the development of the author's theoretical interests. Our primary emphasis will be on the close reading of these texts, attentive analysis, and careful writing.
