Course Description
Using a simple web authoring tool,
TK3 by Nite Kitchen, students will construct a series of textual and visual "essays" that function as "thought experiments" in order to help discover what it means to be influenced by 21st century media and how one might make such influence work for oneself. In other words, you will attempt to discover what makes you tick: what motivates you and what shuts you down. Starting with an icon from your lived experience, you will research its larger implications for your life, your work, your education. Most work will be conducted online though little computer experience is required. The main text for the course is Gregory Ulmer's
Internet Invention: From Literacy to Electracy. In addition, students will do their own exploration and research-class is held in Curtin Hall's computer lab.
