Course Description

Employing the methods of several disciplines, including literature, history, and philosophy, this course begins with an introduction to the dramatic and detailed documentation of the presence and legacy of Africans in Ancient America (or pre-Columbian America) then explores African American literature and film. Selected essays, slave narratives, poetry, short stories, novels, and films will be critically studied. Attention will be given to historical, cultural, and socio-political backgrounds.
