Degree Programs The Department of Economics offers degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate level. At the undergraduate level, students can receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in the College of Letters and Science. This degree has a minimum of 30 credit hours which are split between required and elective courses. Undergraduates are also able to minor in Economics by taking 18 credit hours, as well as double major with other degree programs. More information on the undergraduate program, including the names of undergraduate advisors, can be accessed in the ‘Undergraduate Program’ tab above. Graduate students are eligible to complete a terminal Master of Arts degree in Economics within the department. This year long program emphasizes both advanced economic theory and applications. M.A. students are required to take 24 credits and complete either the ‘thesis’ or ‘nonthesis’ option to obtain their degree. The UWM Department of Economics is only only two public universities in Wisconsin to offer a Ph.D. in Economics. This intensive program prepares graduates for careers in academia, government, and the private sector. In addition to these programs, the department has a variety of internship programs available to undergraduates, an Undergraduate Economics Club, and a Graduate Economics Forum. |
