Welcome to the webpage of the Department of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
We have 22 outstanding faculty members who are active researchers and teachers. Since 2002, our faculty have published well over 150 articles, chapters and books on a wide variety of economic topics. Since 1999, our research has appeared in top economics journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Canadian Journal of Economics, European Economic Review, the Journal of Econometrics, and Review of Economics and Statistics, and as well as top field journals such as Industrial and Labor Relations Review, the Journal of Development Economics, the Journal of Human Resources, the Journal of International Economics, and the Journal of Public Economics. Based on research productivity, two members of our department were recently inducted into Who’s Who in Economics, 2003. Faculty members hold affiliations with other programs at UWM including the Center for Research in International Economics, the Master’s Program in Human Resources and Labor Relations, and the Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies Program.
In the Department of Economics, we take teaching seriously. At the undergraduate level, we offer courses leading to a B.A. in Economics with concentrations in the following fields: economic theory; quantitative methods; public policy; strategy, law and the economy; labor economics; and international economic relations. In addition, double majors with other degree programs or minors in Economics are encouraged as methods to understand disciplines more deeply.
We have a strong graduate program. We have a long standing, successful, and international M.A. program which is either a terminal degree or a stepping stone to further graduate work. As one of only two Wisconsin universities with a Ph.D. program in Economics, we are on the forefront of training new economists in up-to-date research and teaching methods. Our Ph.D. graduates find success in jobs in academia, government, and business, in the U.S. and throughout the world.
We hope that you enjoy your visit to our webpage and find the information that you need. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further information about us or the programs that we offer.
Sincerely,
Professor Bill Holahan
