Disposal of Printer/Toner Cartridges

Most spent, used or unneeded toner cartridges are not regulated as hazardous waste. Some toner comes in liquid form, which is likely to contain flammable solvents. The hazardous waste program would handle the disposal of the liquid toner cartridges.

Our department and many other departments on campus send spent copier and laser printer cartridges back to the manufacturer or supplier to be recycled.

  • Please follow instructions included with printer cartridges
  • Instructions will include a postage paid return sticker
  • Seal box and affix sticker
  • Box may be deposited in Campus mail bag or leave for UPS pickup
  • DO NOT abandon cartridges on loading docks!

If you need to download postage-paid shipping labels for printer cartridges, please visit Hewlett-Packard’s web-site that has a direct link to the shipping labels.
