Certificate of Environmental Compliance

The Department of University Safety and Assurances assists the Graduate School Research Services and Administration in obtaining research grants through such programs as those provided by the United States Department of Defense. University Safety and Assurances is required to verify that the research conducted under grant funding be compliant with all applicable national, state and local environmental laws and regulations. The director of UWM's Department of University Safety and Assurances completes the Environmental Certification.

Procedure for obtaining a signed Certificate of Environmental Compliance:

  • Access the required Research Environmental QuestionnaireWord Document or web version of form.
  • The Principal Investigator completes the Research Questionnaire (in detail); and returns it via e-mail or hard copy to John Krezoski, Director of University Safety and Assurances, Engelmann Hall Room 270.
  • The Principal Investigator submits a copy of the Research Project Proposal (if possible) to provide additional details.
  • The Director of University Safety and Assurances writes a summary of the environmental aspects and procedures to be followed to meet environmental compliance requirements for the research project. The PI is contacted if any issues or questions arise during the completion of the summary.
  • The Director of University Safety and Assurances then sends the summary via e-mail to the PI who confirms or corrects interpretation of the summarized procedures. The PI is requested to attest to compliance with the summary’s environmental procedures.
  • The Director of University Safety and Assurances signs the CEC and certifies compliance.
  • The Director of University Safety and Assurances then contacts the PI to arrange for delivery or pickup of CEC.

Important

Please provide realistic lead time for processing the Certificate of Environmental Compliance. This process can take a significant amount of time to complete (a week or several) and is dependent upon the availability of other UWM resource personnel (Biosafety Officer, Radiation Officer) and also upon the amount of detailed information provided by the PI.
