Steps for Proper Disinfection
- For animal care purposes, disinfectants should be used that are specifically formulated for controlling infectious agents commonly found in those settings.
- All disinfectants contain hazardous ingredients; therefore, you must review the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the product before you use it and follow the manufacturer's recommendations for safe use.
- Clean surface of visible organic debris using detergent and water and following the principles outlined under the cleaning section.
- Apply the disinfectant to the contaminated surfaces and allow the surfaces to remain wet with the product for the manufacturer's prescribed contact time.
- After the contact time, remove residual disinfectant and store treated items.
