Basic Biological Safety – Principles and Practices
Safety (noun) - the state of being certain that adverse effects will not be caused by some agent under defined conditions; "insure the safety of the children"; "the reciprocal of safety is risk".
Biosafety (noun) - safety from exposure to infectious agents
Safety in biomedical research is an exercise in recognizing what the risks are (risk assessment) and then introducing procedures, practices, equipment and facilities to control the identified risks or reduce them to acceptable levels. This program will review the principles behind biological safety activities and the safe practices used to minimize exposure to biological hazards in the biomedical research laboratory.
