Animal Procurement

The ARC establishes health specifications for all animals purchased by the University. Certain vendors provide health screening reports from their facility. Incoming animals may be tested or necropsied to screen against certain diseases that are being ecluded from the facility. "Approved vendors" provide the ARC with regular health monitoring reports from their facilities. Before animals from other sources (including other institutions) can be approved for shipping to the ARC, the supplier must provide certain health records. These requirements can be determined by consulting with the campus veterinarian.

Each investigator has been requested to notify the veterinarian and/or lab manager of animal purchase orders, so we can be sure that a protocol form is filed and approved prior to animal use and so that animals can be examined upon arrival.

Please complete the on-line Notification of Animal Order form (or you can use the pdf version of the notification form pdf version, Adobe Acrobat Required) and have it approved by the lab manager or veterinarian prior to ordering the animals to be sure that adequate staffing and space are available for them.
