The following amendments shall be added to the original Policy on Public Access to Animal Facilities at UWM so that it applies to situations where authorized users are accompanied by one or more guests into the animal facilities.

  1. Any guests that accompany an authorized user into the animal facilities must be approved by the principal investigator with whom the authorized worker is affiliated. The principal investigator should maintain a list of the approved individuals.
  2. Visitors accompanying authorized users are prohibited from entering any animal rooms except those assigned to the authorized user (or assigned to their faculty supervisors or sponsors, if the authorized user is a student, staff member or visiting scientist.)
  3. It is the responsibility of the authorized user to supervise the activities of their guest to ensure that no unauthorized access to animal rooms occurs and that the guests do not engage in any behavior that is disruptive to the animals.
  4. It is the responsibility of all authorized users to ask for identification from individuals they see in the facilities whose pictures are no on the authorized user bulletin board. Instance of unauthorized access should be promptly reported.
  5. Student animal caretakers are prohibited from bringing guests into the animal facility.
  6. A copy of this policy will be distributed to each authorized user of the facility. Copies of this policy will also be posted prominently in the facility.
