The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Center for Jewish Studies was established in 1997 with generous grants from the Helen Bader Foundation, the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning as well as Scher Fund, which were matched by UWM. The center serves the UWM campus and the greater Milwaukee community by initiating and conducting academic and community events (such as guest lectures, conferences, workshops and seminars), as well as by promoting and fostering teaching and scholarship in a variety of disciplines engaged with Jewish Studies. Also, the UWM Center for Jewish Studies supports and coordinates the Hebrew Studies Major and Minor and the Certificate Program in Jewish Studies.
