        Founded in 1945, the FAO has the responsibility of improving nutritional standards. This site includes information about nutrition, improving the output of farms, fisheries, and forests. It also has a built-in searchable index.

      International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

        The IFAD is an international financial institution which assists rural poor in developing countries through agricultural development projects. This site offers general information on the institution's work, as well as a searchable index.

      World Food Programme (WFP)

        Fighting world hunger is the main focus of this agency. This site includes information on world regions with the greatest food shortages, weekly emergency reports, and areas vulnerable to disaster as a result of war or natural disasters.

      Economic Commission for Europe (ECE)

      Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)

      International Labour Organization (ILO)

        The ILO promotes social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights by encouraging the enforcement of international labour standards. This site outlines the ILO's activities, and includes a built-in search engine.

      International Monetary Fund (IMF)

        The IMF is a cooperative institution which oversees the monetary and exchange rate policies of member nations. This site details the structures and policies of the International Monetary Fund.

      United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

        UNCTAD seeks to accelerate economic growth and development, particularly in developing countries through trade, investment, and technology. This site introduces UNCTAD's programs, publications, and offers links to related resources.

      United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

        The UNDP focuses on the elimination of poverty by improving member countries' capacity to develop jobs and by promoting market development. Links to country offices and program activities are provided.

      United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

      World Bank (IBRD)

        Known as the World Bank, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) provides loans as well as technical assistance to member nations to help increase their standards of living.         This web site is part of the UNESCO Center for Information and Research in the field of comparative education.

      United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

        The UNESCO promotes collaboration among member nations in education, science, and culture. In addition to a subject listing of the organization's work, this site includes a searchable index which contains some full-text documents.

      United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)

        The UNITAR seeks to render the UN's work more effective by exploring new training approaches, offering training assistance to member states, and by encouraging partnerships which link the needs of member states to the expertise of individuals and institutions both within the UN system, and outside of it. This site introduces the programs of the UNITAR.

      United Nations Staff College (UNSP)

        The United Nations Staff College aims to create, through training programs, a strong network of international civil servants to work on humanitarian, human rights and peacekeeping issues in member countries. This site details the goals and programs of the UNSC.

      United Nations University (UNU)

      Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)

      United Nations Conventions to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)

        The UNCCD offers scientific, technical, and legal support to programs which attempt to combat drought and/or desertification. This site contains information and documents which concern desertification and the UNCCD's role.

      United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

        Information on various environmental programs, aimed at improving the quality of life, is available through this site. Information on current world-wide environmental concerns is also available.

      United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

        The UNFCCC is a series of agreements through which countries around the world are joining together to combat climate change. In addition to general information on climate change and the UNFCCC's work, this site contains country-specific information, emission statistics, and links to related resources.

      World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

        Available in English, French, and Spanish, this site provides information ranging from weather prediction to air pollution. A useful list of links to information on hurricane El Nino, is also provided.

        This site offers information on the UNPF's programs, news, reports, and links to other sites that deal with population issues.

        This is the official UN Peacekeeping Operations web site. This site features a map of current peacekeeping operations worldwide. Use this site to learn more about past and present peacekeeping efforts. This is a good site with a lot of interesting information.

      50 Years of United Nations Peacekeeping Operations

        Developed by the UN Department of Public Information, this site offers an historical record of UN Peacekeeping Operations since 1948.

      International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

      International Computing Centre (ICC)

        The ICC provides assistance in information management and in exploiting computing technologies to UN member states. The site describes the ICC's services and centers of activity.

      International Telecommunications Union (ITU)

        The DAW advocates the improvement of the status of women around the world. This web site offers details concerning the Beijing Conference as well as news and information regarding the struggle for the equal participation of women in all sectors of national and global systems.

      The United Nations and the Status of Women

        The United Nations and the Status of Women Web site outlines the UN's actions on behalf of women worldwide, and describes the United Nations agenda for gender equality.

      United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR)

        The UNHCHR seeks to ensure respect for human rights around the world, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UNHCHR's web site details their programs, and includes an alphabetical search index and site map.

      United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
