THE UNITED NATIONS
- UNICEF Curriculum
Resources
UNICEF provides free
curriculum units to educators, which
are organized
around a particular theme. The theme of the 1997 campaign, "Kids Helping
Kids: Working For Our Dreams," focuses on child labor. In addition to
helping students become aware of the worldwide child-labor crisis, this
year's classroom materials challenge students to think about the world of
work in new ways and to raise their awareness of what it means to
contribute to one's home and community.
National UNICEF Month classroom materials are geared for use in grades 1
through 12 and are available in both English and Spanish. We encourage
you to incorporate these materials into existing lesson plans or to use
them as a springboard for developing your own classroom activities. these
lessons and activities offer students an exciting learning opportunity.
For more information or to receive a classroom packet contact your local
UNICEF chapter, or Alex Dye at the UW-Milwaukee Center for International
Studies. The Milwaukee chapter also has an extensive collection of UNICEF
videos that can be used to supplement the classroom activities and lesson
plans.
