About the Campaign

Every 22 minutes someone is maimed or killed by a landmine. Approximately 26,000 civilians are effected each year. Of these, 8,000 to 10,000 are children. The time has come to end the scourge of landmines.

The Milwaukee Campaign to Ban Landmines (MCBL) is an initiative that has been organized by a group of local organizations in support of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and their efforts to erradicate the production, use, and stockpiling of anti-personel landmines, and to educate the public about the danger that these weapons pose to populations around the world.

The Milwaukee Campaign to Ban Landmines is working to:

  • raise funds to clear a minefield in Cambodia.
  • increase awareness of the global tragedy of landmines among the public in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin.
  • convince President Clinton to sign the International Treaty to Ban Landmines.
