Graduate Teaching Assistants and Departments
CIPD
offers consultations to both individuals and departments in order
to ensure the graduate experience is a successful one. CIPD offers
resources that can improve professional development and pedagogical
skills of graduate students. CIPD also collaborates with UWM departments
in the assessment, development, and implementation of programs designed
to improve departmental communication.

Mid-semester
Evaluations
The Mid-semester
Evaluation is a process designed to help you receive extensive student
reactions mid-way through your course. The Director or Assistant
Director will facilitate a student focus group and feedback process
that will help you focus on key areas in your course and teaching
that you feel are most important. The student feedback will provide
insights into your teaching in a timely manner and on areas largely
unattended to in course evaluations and student ratings, and is
one of the most effective things you can do to improve student learning.
Videotaping
Faculty and teaching academic staff members can arrange a videotaping
of their class through CIPD. This service allows the instructor
to examine specific teaching practices. CIPD provides a useful set
of suggestions to help instructors prepare for their taping session.
At the
end of the taping by a video technician, the instructor will have
complete control over the video. We encourage instructors to arrange
a consultation with CIPD for viewing the video. Some instructors
also prefer to view the tape with a colleague. If you would like
to arrange for a videotaping, please contact Connie Schroeder, Assistant
Director of CIPD, 229-5764.
