CIPD Center Scholars by Year

The 2006-2007 Center Scholars program supports up to five full time faculty or teaching academic staff selected to work with the CIPD Director and Assistant Director on a year-long project related to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).

Focus area for 2006-2007

The Center for Instructional and Professional Development are particularly interested in projects for 2006-2007 that focus on the following:

  • Student learning in First Year Transition courses, including Freshman Seminars.
  • Student learning in general education courses, including courses related to Math, English and Foreign Language.

Funded Projects Must:

  • Pose questions and gather information about teaching and student learning (from a disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspective).
  • Design models and strategies for investigating the connections between teaching and learning.
  • Produce results in a form that can be readily communicated to, and built upon by, colleagues.
  • Advance the campus conversation about the nature and purposes of work in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Center Scholars Committments:

  • Three, one-day sessions in summer 2006.
  • Monthly meetings for collaborative project work and progress updates.
  • Informal presentations of work in progress to the group and other interested colleagues.
  • Dissemination of results in the form of materials, presentations and workshops.
  • Consultation with colleagues with similar projects in 2007-2008.
  • Creation of publishable results for CIPD and other outlets, as appropriate.

Funding

Center Scholars receive up to $8,000. Funds may be used for summer salary (up to one month), course buyout(s) during the academic year, project related travel and expenses.

This funding is provided by UW System and CIPD. No unit match is required.

Timelines and Selection Process

Proposals must be submitted to Tony Ciccone (CIPD) by June 15, 2006.

Scholars are named June 30, 2006.

CIPD provides copies of accepted proposals to Deans for information.
