The Center for Instructional and Professional Development fosters a culture in which excellence in teaching and attention to student learning are understood and pursued as scholarly, intellectual work. CIPD believes that teaching and student learning are intimately connected and that efforts to improve teaching find their true worth in improved learning. We believe further that faculty, teaching academic staff and graduate students need professional development opportunities that vary in format and content according to their discipline, career stage and interests.

To accomplish this mission, the Center for Instructional and Professional Development engages with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee community to:

Initiate innovative programs and grant opportunities
Collaborate with campus, state, and national initiatives
Provide collegial assistance
Promote and support the effective use of technology
Develop and sustain ongoing conversations that encourage effective and innovative teaching
