CIM Services
The Center for Industrial Mathematics (CIM) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee offers many opportunities for companies to have their technological problems solved. Emphasis is placed on satisfaction for the customer.
There are a variety of services offered, as listed below. Please contact the CIM director for further details.
- Master's Project: Through the CIM, companies will be able to find help in solving their mathematical and computational problems by having a graduate student work on a Master's project. Students with appropriate skills will be assigned to investigate the problem, and CIM faculty will be supervising the student. The student will develop a mathematical model, analyze and improve the model through mathematical and computational prototyping and analysis, employ the model in quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis, or computational simulation, and finally deliver a detailed report with supporting software (if applicable).
- Doctoral Project: Through the CIM companies will be able to find help in solving their difficult mathematical and computational problems by having a graduate student work on a Ph.D. thesis. Students with appropriate skills will be assigned to investigate the problem, and CIM faculty will be supervising the student. The student will investigate the problem, develop a mathematical model, analyze and improve the model through mathematical analysis and computational simulation, and deliver a detailed report with supporting software (if applicable). The Mathematical sophistication is expected to be at the highest possible level.
- Problems Solved by a CIM Professor: This category of service is for the most difficult and mission critical problems. Please check the CIM Faculty links to find out about the wide range of expertise and available. A note concerning grants: Our professors are very interested in applying jointly with companies for grants. There are a lot of opportunities for industry to tap into the resources of our highly knowledgeable faculty members. UWM Industrial Mathematicians would do the application, but they would need to have projects from corporate partners. Please consider contacting the CIM director to put grant applications in motion.
- Workshops or Conferences Led by CIM Faculty and Members: We are able to update companies on the latest technology in a wide variety of subjects, anywhere from a few hours' lecture to week long workshops. Please check the CIM Faculty links to find out about the wide range of expertise and available. Please note: There may be grant opportunities to help with conferences and workshops.
Non-disclosure and patent rights issues are expected to be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties (see the "Legal Issues" link to the left).
It is important to note that our program emphasizes the solution of specific technological problems, rather than internships. Internships are, however, acceptable.
