• This hotel is located near O'hare International airport (2 miles). There is a hotel shuttle van or you may take a taxi cab. It is 3 minutes' walk to the Cumberland Station of the Blue Line EL (subway). The Blue Line of the EL begins in O'hare International airport, and this is the second stop from O'hare (called "Cumberland"), at which point you can't miss the Ramada Plaza Hotel looming over you. It is very easy to walk from the Cumberland station to the hotel. This is located in an up-scale suburb of Chicago. You may find more information at the above website. • The Ramada Plaza is about 20 miles from the IIT campus, but very easy access through the Blue Line of the EL, which is very close to the hotel (3 minutes walk), and then transfer to either the Green Line or the Red Line, which are very close to the meeting site (5 minutes walk). It takes about 40 minutes on the blue line plus about 12 minutes on the green (or red) to reach IIT. • The registration fee includes a 5 day CTA (Chicago Transit Authority, for Chicago public transportation) pass for unlimited rides. The CMMSE Meeting on the IIT campus is very close to the Green Line and the Red Line of the EL, so it is only necessary from the Ramada Plaza Hotel to walk to the Cumberland Station of the Blue Line EL, take a train with "Forrest Park" on the front (not "O'Hare," as that would be the opposite direction) to the "Clark" or "State" stations to transfer to the Green Line, or to "Lake" to transfer to the Red Line of the EL. Take the Red Line EL south (not "Howard", which is to the North) to the "Sox 35th" exit. The Green Line exit is called "35th-Bronzeville-IIT." These stops are close to the meeting site on the IIT campus, with the Green Line stop being a little closer. • Keynote speakers will stay in a different hotel. Please be in touch with Bruce Wade for details, IIT Dormitories • CMMSE has negotiated a block of 30 dormitory rooms at the IIT campus.

Accommodations- Secondary Hotels • The following hotel has an arrangement with CMMSE for a discounted price, although there is not a block of rooms reserved. That is, availability is on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to mention "CMMSE."
OTHER HOTELS The following hotels offer
discounts to university visitors in Chicago. Follow the directions
on the web sites in calling to make reservations. These hotels do
not have an agreement with CMMSE, specifically, but do have agreements
with the universities through a sharing arrangements. • The Red Roof Inn nationwide has an agreement with the University of Wisconsin System. Check the following link for information and call for availability. Red Roof Inn- UW System • The following link has a list of hotels with agreements with Northwestern University, and NU has an agreement with the University of Wisconsin System for these prices. Northwestern University Recommended Hotels. • The following link has a list of hotels with agreements with the University of Chicago, and UC has an agreement with the University of Wisconsin System for these prices. University of Chicago Recommended Hotels. • The following hotels have agreements with IIT (in general), although no specific agreement with CMMSE. We suggest trying Club Quarters first. These are very good prices, but demand in Chicago in June makes it impossible for CMMSE to reserve a block- yet individuals who call may find space.

Directions to IIT The major International airport to Chicago is called O'Hare International Airport (its official abbreviation is "ORD"). The airport website is http://www.ohare.com/. Directions to arrive at the IIT campus are below; be careful, the hotels are not located nearby the campus. The conference site is the Engineering 1 building of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), located at 10 West 32nd ,although there really is no 32nd street at that point. Rather, the building is better found by realizing that it is on State Street just south of 31st. It is very near the green or red lines of the "EL" (i.e., Metro). On campus there is a cafeteria, Center Court Cafe, located in the McCormick Tribune Campus Center (across State Street from Engineering 1, the meeting site), as well as Cafe a la Carte, located in Hermann Hall / IIT Conference Center. The Green Line and Red Line of the El run just a few blocks from the meeting site. The stations are called "Sox-35th" at 35th and the Dan Ryan Expressway (for Red) and "35th-Bronzeville-IIT" at 35th and State Street (for Green). The hotels, lunch, reception, and banquet sites are not yet decided, but may not be near the IIT campus. The EL will be a convenient means of transportation, however. The registration fee will include a (Chicago Transit Authority) CTA 7 day pass that is valid for an unlimited number of El and Bus rides. Busses in Chicago run past each stop every 10 minutes, so it is only necessary to use a map to locate the desired route. The Blue line runs from O'Hare to the "Loop" (downtown area), with several opportunities to transfer to the Green or Red lines. It is recommended that you consult a CTA map. (Details on how to get the CTA pass to participants have yet to be worked out. Please be in touch by email. We hope to mail them ahead of time, or have them available at your hotel desk.)
