Malardalen University Exchange Sweden
Mälardalen University is a medium sized regional university. It has two campuses, one in the city of Vasteras on the north side of Lake Mälaren, and the other in Eskilstuna, on the south side of the lake. Both cities are situated in the very heart of Sweden, approximately one hour by train west of Stockholm. The region provides a good range of outdoor leisure activities such as golf, sailing and swimming during the summer, and skiing and skating on and around Lake Mälaren in the winter. The campuses contain some of the most modern university buildings in the country. They are centrally located, and offer well-equipped classrooms, computer facilities, libraries and labs. The International Office has administrative responsibility for all exchange students and provides services such as locating accommodations and orientation days. The departments have the academic responsibility for the students. The International Committee of the Student Union organizes social activities and arranges for all exchange students to have student mentors.
The University has an enrollment of 13,000 students and offers 40 degree-programs and a wide variety of courses in approximately 40 other disciplines. Subject areas include Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics, Energy, Math, Science, Physics, Business, Economics, Social Sciences, and Scandinavian Languages and Culture. A variety of courses are taught in English, introductory level Swedish courses are available for visiting exchange students. See the Overseas Programs office for the available list of courses. Students may choose to participate in this program for the fall semester, spring semester, or academic year.
Applicants must be enrolled as degree seeking students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. All participants must have at least sophomore status and carry a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale). Some background knowledge of Swedish is recommended. In addition to written application materials and letters of reference, on Overseas Programs faculty committee may interview applicants.
