Herstmonceux Castle Study Abroad
The International Study Center at Herstmonceux Castle, East Sussex, England, was opened in 1993. Owned and operated by Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, the Castle was formerly used as Britain The Herstmonceux program offers a wide variety of courses in many different fields of study. Generally there is a concentration on the arts and humanities with some language and social science in the fall, and a concentration on social science and business with some arts and humanities in the spring. Students may participate in this program fall semester, spring semester, or during the summer. The approximate time frames are as follows:
Students should have sophomore standing and carry a minimum 2.5 GPA (4.0 scale). In addition to the written application materials and letter of reference, applicants may be interviewed by an Overseas Programs faculty committee. A full list of courses is available on the Herstmonceux website at http://www.queensu.ca/isc/ Select: “Academic Programs,” choose: “The Upper Year Program”, then “Course Descriptions.” In addition to class work in the Castle, students are frequently taken to London for on-site field study lectures. The unique Castle experience offers students a rigorous academic program in a magnificent setting coupled with a variety of activities and excursions highlighting British life and culture. Approximate cost*: WI Res. - $14,274; MN Reciprocity $14,374; Non-Res. - $14,474 Program fee includes UWM academic and administrative fees, UW System health insurance, orientation and program management at the Castle, room and board, weekly social and cultural activities, and sponsored excursions. Not included in the program fee: Airfare and ground transportation, passport, books and supplies, personal and miscellaneous expenses. *These cost estimates fluctuate based on the currency conversion at the time of billing (US dollar versus Canadian dollar). A final invoice will be sent mid-semester. Studentslive in shared, modern dormitory rooms in the Bader Halls, adjacent to the Castle. Housing costs include a full meal plan.
