Description

The medieval city of Canterbury is the most ancient and one of the most beautiful of English cathedral cities. It is a small city with a warm and friendly atmosphere, located in the peaceful county of Kent, 56 miles southeast of London. Regular trains run to and from London – travel time is approximately 90 minutes. Canterbury, with a population of 38,000, is the commercial and cultural center of the region. The city center today shows much of its medieval history in ancient streets and buildings and, of course, the cathedral.

The University of Kent at Canterbury, incorporated by Royal Charter in 1965, is a modern university with 5,000 students. Its well-respected scholarly tradition and flexible academic structure makes it one of the most distinguished universities in England.  The University of Kent at Canterbury offers 500 undergraduate and 120 postgraduate degrees. Along with a wide variety of courses to choose from, the University of Kent encourages exchange students to do interdisciplinary studies.

The university is characterized by up-to-date facilities and an exciting and rigorous academic program. The friendly staff at the international office is available to assist you in getting around campus and settling in to classes and housing. As for computer access, the Computing Service provides extensive computing facilities for all students. There are over 600 public access PCs on the Canterbury campus and all students have their own e-mail address and access to the World Wide Web.

This is a wonderful overseas program for an independent social science or humanities major with good grades who would like to study near London.
