Traditions & Festivals: Chinese Culture & Language in Taiwan January 3 -January 20, 2008 Application deadline: Oct 15, 2007 with $250 deposit Overview: This study tour is set in Taiwan, one of the places that consciously preserves many Chinese traditions and ceremonies. During their 16-day visit to Taiwan, participants will have numerous opportunities to interact with and learn from Taiwanese people. Throughout the course of their study: students will meet with famous writers and filmmakers; will learn and have the opportunity to practice Mandarin Chinese; and will find out about Chinese culture from local masters. Visits with Taiwanese families preparing for the Chinese New Year will reinforce what students have learned and will hopefully deepen their understanding of and appreciation for the mix of ancient Chinese and modern Taiwanese traditions and festivals.
