Programs- Summer 2008 Vancouver- Sustainable Urban Environments Dates: May 21-23, 2008 (In Milwaukee) May 24-June 1, 2008 (In Vancouver) Application deadline: March 14, 2008 with $250 deposit
Overview: Vancouver, a city at the forefront of urban, social, and environmental planning, and consistently ranked in the top 3 cities in the world, is the exciting destination for this two-part summer program focusing on urban revitalization and development. Beginning in Milwaukee, students will explore the evolution of our urban environmental crisis and the emergence of a sustainable city approach. The group then travels to Vancouver, where field visits are interspersed with lectures. Field-based tours and lectures will take place at a number of public, private, and nonprofit institutions where students will learn about the range of policy, program and management initiatives being developed and implemented in Vancouver. Credits: 3 undergraduate credits in Geography, Urban Studies or Urban Planning Participation: This program is open to all US college/university students. Preference will be given to UWM students. Estimated Cost*: $1,350 *Cost includes academic fees, accommodation, some meals, transit pass and excursions. *Cost does not include international airfare (est. $600) most meals or personal spending money. *Program fees are based on a realistic estimate of participants. The cost may change if the exchange rate fluctuates or the minimum number of participants is not achieved. **There are fee differentials for graduate students and non-Wisconsin residents. ***Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Grants can be used for this program.
