Programs-Summer 2008 Summer in Madrid, Spain May 29 -June 27, 2008 Application deadline: March 14, 2008 with $250 deposit *Please note: The dates listed above are program start dates in-country. Please allow for appropriate travel time. Overview: Madrid, Spain’s capital city, is the site for this enriching UWM summer program. Students may earn up to 7 undergraduate credits on the program – 4 credits in Spanish language and 3 credits in Spanish culture and civilization. The Spanish language classes, taught at all ability levels, are taken at the Don Quijote Language School. The culture and civilization course, taught by UWM Prof. Nancy Bird Soto, is titled “A Survey of Spain: Past and Present,” is taught in either English or Spanish and will examine Spain’s current social, political, and cultural reality. Historical facts will be explored and connected to the Spain of today through direct contact with people and visits to museums and institutions of social and cultural significance. Students will be housed in shared apartments in Madrid or may choose a homestay with a Spanish family. Credits: 4 undergraduate credits in Spanish Language at all proficiency levels, and 3 credits in Spanish Culture and Civilization, taught in either English or Spanish Participation: This program is open to all college/university students. Preference is given to UWM students. Estimated Cost*: $4,175 * Cost includes academic fees, accommodation, Madrid transit pass and activities *Program fees are based on a realistic estimate of participants. The cost may change if the exchange rate fluctuates or the minimum number of participants is not achieved. **There are fee differentials for graduate students and non-Wisconsin residents. ***Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Grants can be used for this program.
