Programs- Summer 2008 Bristol- Social Work & Criminal Justice Dates: July 3- 17, 2008 Application deadline: February 1, 2008 with $250 deposit *Please note: The dates listed above are program start dates in-country. Please allow for appropriate travel time.
Overview: UWM and The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare are coordinating the Bristol International Credit Earning Programme (BICEP) in Comparative Public Policy, a 2-week study abroad course. UWM students join. The program consists of a combination of lectures by English faculty from the University of Bristol and professionals in social work and criminal justice, site visits, and assignment to a UK research advisor for individual academic assistance. Students may study in the areas of child welfare, criminal justice, health policy, mental health and family violence. The course examines comparative US and UK approaches to child protection, juvenile justice, and social services in both theory and practice. Students will analyze and evaluate strategies for preventative and community-based services through interdisciplinary dialogue and a combination of classroom lectures and site visits. Students will earn 6 undergraduate or graduate credits in Social Work or Criminal Justice. Preference will be given to UWM students. Estimated Cost*: $3,600 * Cost includes academic fees, accommodation, most meals, in-country travel and academic excursions. *Program fees are based on a realistic estimate of participants. The cost may change if the exchange rate fluctuates or the minimum number of participants is not achieved. **There are fee differentials for graduate students and non-Wisconsin residents. ***Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Grants can be used for this program.
