Programs- Summer 2008 Brazil- Dance Dates: In Milwaukee: June 11-13, 2008 In Brazil: June 17-30, 2008 Application deadline: March 14, 2008 with $250 deposit Overview: This exciting trip to Salvador and São Luis in Brazil is designed to give students an opportunity to explore interdisciplinary and foundational learning in the area of world dance through interactions with and explorations of Brazilian culture. This includes all aspects of dance: music, historical and social contents; production; critical theories of performance, religious backgrounds; and theatre making – from current to centuries-old traditions. Students will be exposed to a variety of dance forms, according to culture, place, time and event and will be asked to interact, explore, critique, and share their experiences as guests in Brazil. Finally, the course includes tours of local attractions, historical sites, and museums, as well as dance companies and a variety of live performances. This program includes mandatory pre-departure meetings in Milwaukee.
Credits: 3 Undergraduate or Graduate credits in Dance (497) Participation: This program is open to all US college/university students. Preference will be given to UWM students. Estimated Cost*: $4,375 *Cost includes international airfare, in-country airfare and other domestic travel, accommodation, excursions and entrance fees. *Program fees are based on a realistic estimate of participants. The cost may change if the exchange rate fluctuates or the minimum number of participants is not achieved. **There are fee differentials for graduate students and non-Wisconsin residents. ***Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Grants can be used for this program.
