Overview:

How difficult can it be to reunify East and West, Capitalism and Communism?  Discover the difficulties, not only by negotiating German reunification yourself in a classroom simulation, but also by traveling to Berlin, the city literally divided by the Cold War.  Berlin, chosen to be the reunified Germany’s capital, best illustrates Germany’s attempt to integrate its two faces, the East and the West.  Join this program and explore how two opposing worlds, confronted with each other in 1990, struggle to find an identity and a common voice. Germans struggle to find this voice not only politically and economically, but also creatively, through film, literature, architecture, theater and visual arts.  This program includes visits such as:  Stasi Headquarters, a Stasi prison, Checkpoint Charlie; walking tours of Berlin; theater and museum shows with optional day trips to Dresden and Leipzig.
