Programs-Summer 2007 Summer in Japan: Historic Preservation in a High Tech Country School of Architecture & Urban Design May 24 -June 14, 2007 Application deadline: March 15, 2007 with $250 deposit *Please note: The dates listed above are program start dates in-country. Please allow for appropriate travel time.
Overview: The Historic Preservation Institute at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning offers this 3-credit program in Japan. The program focuses on historic preservation as well as explores current urban, building and landscape design matters. The group will conduct an in-depth examination of a country struggling to maintain its historic cultural identity in the midst of overwhelming social and technological change. The program will focus on the two main urban centers in Japan – Tokyo and Osaka. Activities will include site visits and walking tours to various historic shrines, construction sites and museums, along with many other cultural and social experiences.
Credits: 3 undergraduate or graduate upper-level Field Study Credits Participation: Open to all US college/university students. Preference will be given to UWM students. Estimated Cost*: TBA* *Program fees are based on a realistic estimate of participants. The cost may change if the exchange rate fluctuates or the minimum number of participants is not achieved. **There are fee differentials for graduate students and non-Wisconsin residents. ***Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Grants can be used for this program.
