Programs-Summer 2008 Mexico: Service Learning in Oaxaca and Milwaukee June 25 -July 12, 2008 in Oaxaca June 23-24& July 14-19, 2008 in Milwaukee Application deadline: March 14, 2008 with $250 deposit
Overview: This unique program offers the chance to experience globalization in Oaxaca and Milwaukee. For the first portion of the trip, students will travel to Oaxaca, Mexico. Credits earned will focus on Spanish Language (3 credits) plus an optional 3 credits in service-learning. For this practical portion of the course, students are matched with projects ranging from ecological development, civic education, and a women’s cooperative. After returning to Milwaukee, participants will be immersed in local Latino community organizations to see the comparisons between the two realities.
Credits: 3 undergraduate Spanish language credits; additional 3 credits in an optional Service-Learning project (*Placement in service-learning based on oral proficiency exam) Participation: Open to all US college/university students. Preference given to UWM students. Estimated Cost*: TBA *Program fees are based on a realistic estimate of participants. The cost may change if the exchange rate fluctuates or the minimum number of participants is not achieved. **There are fee differentials for graduate students and non-Wisconsin residents. ***Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Grants can be used for this program.
