The Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), also known as Tecnológ ico de Monterrey, was founded in 1943 by a group of entrepreneurs headed by Don Eugenio Garza Sada.  Seeking to educate professionals and equip them with the skills they need to succeed, Tecnológico de Monterrey has developed into an institut ion recognized, nationally and internationally, for its academic excellence.

A private, non-profit nationwide university system, Tec de Monterrey is comprised of 33 campuses spread throughout 26 Mexican cities.  The following 9 campuses are available for the UWM exchange program:

  • Ciudad México: This campus has an enrollment of about 5,000 undergraduates and is located in the southern part of Mexico City, a metropolis of over 20 million inhabitants.
  • Cuernavaca/Morelos: This small campus of 2,000 students is located in the “City of Eternal Spring”, about one hour south of Mexico City.
  • Estado de México: Located in the northeastern section of Mexico City, this campus is the second largest in the ITESM system, with 9,000 students.
  • Guadalajara: The capital of the state of Jalisco, Guadalajara is a vibrant modern city of about 5 m illion people and is home to some of the most well-known Mexican traditions, such as mariachi bands. The ITESM campus is located on the outskirts of the city and has about 4,000 students.
  • Mazatlán: This provincial city is located on the Pacific coast and is a major tourism and port center. The small campus of 500 students is especially suited for hospitality, business, and computer scienc e students.
  • Monterrey: With 15,000 students, this is the largest and oldest campus in the ITESM system. Monterrey is the third largest city in Mexico and is only 150 miles south of the U.S. border.
  • Querétaro: A center of Spanish colonial architecture and historic importance, Quéretaro is a city of 700,000 people and is within a few hours travel of many tourist sites and Mexico city. The ITES M campus here has about 2,000 students.
  • San Luis Potosi: Sharing borders with nine other Mexican states, San Luis Potosi has gained the reputation as the “two hour city” since you can get to several major cities and sites in two hours.&nb sp; The campus is located in the in the center of the city and has about 1,500 students.
  • Toluca: Known as “The Altitude Capital” of Mexico, Toluca is located 8, 790 feet above se a level.  Well connected to the heartland, it is a provincial town updated by industrial progress.  Many large international companies are located in Toluca, offering great internship opportunities to students.  There are about 4,800 studen ts enrolled on this campus. 

Whether you prefer to be near the mountains, by the beach, in a colonial town, or a modern business center, there’s a campus that suits your specific needs.

Fall Semester:  early August to mid-December

Academic Year:  early August to end of May

Spring Semester:  early January to end of May

Summer:  early June to mid-July

Eligibility

This is an undergraduate or graduate exchange.  Applicants must be enrolled as degree-seeking students at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.  Preference will be given to applicant s with a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale) and at least 4 semesters of college-level spanish or the equivalent.  (2 semesters of college level Spanish or the equivalent for the summer program).  Applicants may be called in for a personal interview.

Courses

Once a student has chosen a campus, the student may take any of the courses the school offers.  Some of the strong subject areas for all the campuses include:  Spanish, Mexican Cultural Studies, Litera ture, History, Business, various other content courses based on language proficiency, and internships are available.  For a complete listing of the courses each campus has to offer please visit the individual school's websites:

Cost

Students pay UWM tuition, a $450 administrative fee and $37/month for health insurance.

Students are responsible for living costs.  More information can be found on the campus websites listed above.

Housing

Participants have the following housing options (varies by campus): student residence hall, off-campus apartment, or family homestay.
