Guangxi Normal University Student Exchange Program Guilin, China
Guangxi Normal University (GNU) is located inland in southeastern China in the beautiful city of Guilin. Guilin is a mid-sized city, easily accessible by air and train from the major Chinese cities. Guilin’s primary industry is tourism, both domestic and international, so the city is well-equipped with resources for foreigners. UWM students studying at Guangxi pay all registration and housing fees directly to GNU upon arrival in Guilin. This is primarily a language program with students receiving Linguistics credit for the language classes they take. Classes are offered at many different levels with placement tests given before the start of each semester. GNU also offers limited courses in Taiji, Calligraphy, Business Chinese Conversation and more. These are usually 1 – 2 credit courses. UWM students are in language and culture classes with other international students. There are other students from the U.S. and Europe but most students are from Asia. Guangxi Normal University is one of the earliest higher educational institutions in China authorized by China’s Ministry of Education to enroll international students and students from Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan regions. GNU provides its international students and foreign staff with comfortable conditions to live, to study, and to work in. Its Service Center prepares 600 rooms and suites with facilities of different qualities, capable of accommodating over 1,200 people. The University recently invested 30 million Yuan ($4.2 million) in a new International Education Center. The building was completed for use in December 2006, providing better accommodation for foreign students, foreign experts, and visitors.
