Programs- Winterim 2009
Costa Rica - Ecology Dates: TBD **EARLY APPLICATION DEADLINE** Application deadline: Oct 1, 2008 with $250 deposit
Overview:
Costa Rica’s Tirimbina Rainforest is the spectacular setting for this program in ecology. Imagine spending several days conducting research at a remote field station in the middle of Tirimbina, 750 acres of tropical forest area. The Tirimbina Rainforest Center is an international project where education, research and striking beauty combine for outstanding encounters with nature. The program starts at the Milwaukee Public Museum’s “Exploring Life on Earth” exhibit where we will identify fauna. Then we travel to San José, spend one night, and head north with a stop in the volcano region before arriving in Costa Rica’s lush forest reserve to continue lab work and learn about tropical streams and water sheds. This is a rugged field experience and students live and work under primitive conditions. Returning to Milwaukee we spend a few more days working at the Public Museum analyzing invertebrates. Don’t miss this rare opportunity!
