University of Georgia Study Abroad Program Cortona, Italy
Description Cortona is built on the crest of Monte Sant-Egidio and is surrounded by a massive ancient city-wall. Looking from the top of the city wall, one can see one of the finest and widest views in Italy; the wide fertile plain of the Valdichiana, with the mountains of Siena at the far end and the great shining expanse of Lake Trasimeno in the distance.
During this exciting semester program, students will take day-long field trips to nearby locations such as Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo, Florence, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, Siena, Ravenna and others. Overnight trips to Rome, Venice, Naples and various other cities are also offered.
Students have access to new technology, including: 14 new G5’s a large format color printer, standard printer and scanners. There is also an on-site library of well-selected volumes related to the courses offered in Cortona. Also, the public library in Cortona is open for those who read Italian.
Dates Students may participate in this study abroad program during fall semester, spring semester or summer session. Fall semester runs August through November, spring semester runs February through May and summer session runs June through August. Eligibility This is an undergraduate study abroad program. Applicants must be junior status, enrolled as degree seeking students at UWM. Two semesters of college Italian or the equivalent, and an overall 2.5 GPA and 3.0 major GPA are required. Applicants may be called in for a personal interview. Courses Students take courses in the subject areas of studio art, art history, Italian language and Italian culture. The Summer session is estimated at $8,231.00. If you elect to stay more than one semester, you can receive a reduction in cost. Program fee includes a shared dorm-style room, breakfast everyday and dinner Monday through Friday, hotels and travel in Europe with the program, international I.D. card and university credit ( the maximum number of credit hours allowed will vary depending on the term you attend.) No meals are provided while the program is in Venice. Program fees DO NOT include trans-Atlantic airfare. Housing Spring, Summer and Fall students live in a renovated 15th century monastery in multiple-bed dormitory rooms with shared, modern bathrooms.
